Site Tours
Town Hall – often described as Manchester finest building, a gothic delight crammed with history and beauty. Designed by Alfred Waterhouse and opened in 1877. Gorton Monastery - a beautiful monastery, which became dilapidated and vandalised when the brothers left. Now, restored with the greatest attention to detail. However, some damaged parts have been left alone giving a great contrast. John Rylands Library - commissioned by Enriqueta Rylands as a memorial to her husband John (Manchester’s first cotton millionaire) The reading room is particularly attractive with statues representing literature, philosophy, science and the arts. It also holds a fragment of St John’s gospel.
Museum of Science and Industry - a huge museum housed in the world’s first railway station. It includes trains, planes, cars, all the machinery used in the cotton industry, the original railway booking office, underground Manchester and a hands on area amongst many other exhibits.
Afternoon Tea Tours Any of the tours can be combined with a traditional English afternoon tea of dainty sandwiches, scones with jam and cream and mouth-watering cakes. Both tea and coffee would be available. Afternoon teas could be taken in the Town Hall or at one of Manchester's sumptuous hotels.
